Chennai International Screenwriting Workshop

Raajkamal Films International cordially invites you to the inauguration of the Chennai International Screenwriting Workshop at the ICSR auditorium, IIT-Madras.

Inauguration: 4.30 p.m.
Date:28/05/09

The Chennai International Screenwriting Workshop, the first of its kind in South India, hosted by Raajkamal Films International in association with the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, will kick off with a brief inaugural session on May 28.
The workshop will culminate with a two-day seminar with some of the best screenwriters and filmmakers from around the world.
French writer Jean Claude Carriere, Olivier Lorelle (whose film Indigenes was nominated to the Oscars 2006) and Shekhar Kapur, will share their thoughts with the likes of K. Balachander, Balu Mahendra, Gulzar, Gollapudi Maruthi Rao, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Vishal Bharadwaj, Rituparno Ghosh, Shyamaprasad and Sriram Raghavan at the seminar between June 2 and June 3, 2009.
“I envy the 250 delegates who will get to be there at the ICSR auditorium at IIT to listen to the masters and attend the screenwriting workshop to be conducted by Anjum Rajabali, Atul Tiwari and K.Hariharan,” says Kamal Haasan.
Kamal Haasan is dedicating the seminar to his dear old friend Ananthu, who first introduced him to world cinema.
“Ananthu was the one who got me into writing. Suchitra Film Society would screen films from around the world. Every time films came for festivals, we would hijack the films and watch them,” he recalls. “Once I could afford it, I went to the US and spent some time with (John) Truby. He was like my coach. He introduced me to all the tools I needed. Thevar Magan was the first film here to be written with Movie Magic, a screenwriting software.”
Later in the nineties, he met Luis Bunuel’s regular hand Jean Claude Carriere, who went on to become the co-writer for Maruthanayagam. “He then introduced me to Abbas Kiarostami and that was the first time we spoke of mentoring writers and filmmakers. Because not all storytellers make for good screenwriters. Even if Shakespeare was around today, he would have to learn screenwriting. Not to say screenwriting is greater than Shakespeare. It’s just that the rules of the game have changed. It took me nearly twenty years to learn what is today taught in film schools. These 250 students we have selected will need just a week to take their first baby step towards writing.”
The speakers all belong to different schools of cinema.
“All the people I have called are people I have learned from even if they are younger than me. Some of them are people I consider mentors. Mr. Balachander has written and produced 100 different films, Mr. Balu Mahendra and I wish Mani Ratnam could’ve come too but he has a film to complete

Vikram who is all excited about his upcomming Kanthasamy is also equally excited about his next bilingual Ravana. When asked about his Ravana and his experiance with the Bachchan’s Vikram was all praises for the Dad and Son Bachchan as well as the Bachchan bahu.

Vikram

Bachchan Son Abhishek holds Vikram in very high esteem and Vikram who was flattered with the admiration considers Abhi is good friend. Even more thirlled was Vikram when he heard that the Bachchan kandhan had already seen his Tamil films like Samy and Dhool and own DVD’s and play songs from his movie.

He is also thrilled with acting with the daughter-in-law Aishwarya and says that she has improved a lot. When asked about the different shades of character he plays in Tamil and Hindi, he says that it was a challenge to play a negative shade in Hindi and then switch to a positive role in Tamil.

Mani-Mani part ways!!

Filed under: Actors, Actress, Latest, entertainment, gallery, india, movies — admin @ 6:22 am

The lastest update on Mani Ratnam’s Ravana is that the cameraman Manikandan has walked out and Santosh Sivan has joined the Ravana unit and the remaining part of the movie is going to be shot by Santosh. The buzz is also that some of the scenes that Manikandan will also be re-shot by Santosh.

Mani Rathanam

The grapevine is abuzz that Mani Ratnam and Manikandan parted ways because the movie was taking longer than expected and Manikandan was not able to dedicate more dates to the movie. Already he had streched his scheduled to the limit. Manikandan who makes big name and money in the Ad commercials that he is shoots did not want to dedicate more time to the movie and hence they parted ways.

Santosh Sivan and Mani Ratnam already are a hit combination with Santosh winning National award for his camerawork in Iruvar and Dil se.

Who’ll be the first?

Filed under: Actors, Actress, Latest, entertainment, gallery, india, movies — admin @ 6:22 am

Thats the question making rounds in the kollywood circle of late? and who’ll do what you might ask? The question making rounds here is about who’ll make a movie on the late LTTE chief Vellupillai Prabhakaran.

Prakash Raj

The first person to start talking about this was Prakash Raj in a session organised by the Karnataka Film
Journalists Association in Bangalore. Prakash said he would put in his best effort but added that instead of doing any homework, he would rather rely on spontaneity which is more likely to yield better results.

A leading director in Tamil who is planning to direct this movie has lot of names being tossed around who will play Prabhakaran include Prakash Raj, Pasupathi, Nana Patekar and Malayalam superstar Mohanlal. Only time will tell who gets to play the role and who gets to make the movie.
