Give Life Chennai Marathon 2009

About two lakh participants including professionals from Europe and Africa are expected to participate in the second edition of the ‘Give Life Chennai Marathon 2009,’ proceeds of which would be used to provide assistance to underprivileged children,organisers said.

Organised by Chennai-based Tamil Maiyam and Goodwill Communications Ltd, the event will be held on August 22 on a 21.09 km distance from the War Memorial to the Rajaji Bhavan Complex, Fr.Jegath Gasper Raj of Tamil Maiyam, said.

A total of 8460 children have been enlisted for assistance this time,he told reporters here today.

The theme for this year’s run would focus on awareness on obesity and diabetes, he said adding a total sum of around Rs 27 lakh as prize money awaited the top three winners in the men and women categories including the Wheel Chair Run.

The prize money for winners of the Men and Women categories was Rs five lakh and a mini-run of seven km would also be held.

A ‘Lean Food Mela’ highlighting the need for fibrous, healthy food and a Breakfast Festival presenting the various breakfast dishes from the state would also be held, he said.

Last year’s event saw around 1.7 lakh runners, with 5800 of them professionals, taking part, he added. – Agencies
